IntroductionPulsar Intense Pulse Light (IPL) is a safe way to effectively remove unwanted hair.IPL is different to LASER as it has a distinct light that can be used on a wider variety of skin types, making it safer for Asian skins. LASER uses a narrow applicator head with a narrow light beam, which is very intense. IPL uses a larger applicator head to accommodate a broad beam of light. Therefore Pulsar IPL can treat larger areas of the body quicker.How does it work?All the hairs on the body grow in a cycle, which allows hairs to be present at all times, so that you always have hairs on your body. When a hair is actively growing its root is alive with proteins and moisture to help it grow. IPL works by sending an Intense Pulse of Light down the dark hair shaft to heat the root of the hair. If the hair is a healthy growing hair then it will not be able to re-grow, as all the nutrients that it needs to grow will have been destroyed. However, other hairs that are not growing when the treatment occurred will return when the beginning of the cycle starts again.Because of this cycle it is not possible to have just one treatment, a course of treatments are recommended. However it is important to realise that it is not possible to tell from the beginning exactly how many treatments are required as every person has a different hair growth cycle and these figures are an average. From our studies we know that the thinner the hair the more treatments will be required.Is it permanent?Intense Pulsed Light is a long term hair reduction treatment as many factors such as Pregnancy, Menopause, and Irregular Periods can influence hair growth throughout your life. IPL can only destroy normal active healthy growing hairs that are present when you have the treatment. It cannot prevent hairs from growing later in life. It is important to attend treatment on a regular basis (36) weeks for the treatment to be effective. Please discuss the timings of treatment with your operator.For people who have a hormonal imbalance i.e. polycystic ovary, thyroid, and diabetes, IPL cannot promise a permanent solution. It can however, reduce the existing hairs to such an extent that this distressing side effect can be managed, to that compared to other temporary methods of hair removal such as waxing, threading, and tweezing.. If this course of action is undertaken by you, following GP consent then please understand that many more treatments will be needed to regulate the hair growth and it may be necessary for you to return for further treatment.This policy will be reviewed every 6 months to be updated to the National Healthcare Commission standard. Full review will be on display to clients either on request or in salon.Are there any permanent side effects?IPL is one of the safest ways to remove unwanted hairs. Usually there are no side effects but there are people who are susceptible to heat. For some people a minor burn/graze can appear at the site of treatment, caused by heat being retained in the skin. It will swell slightly and develop a crust just like a burn you may have had from cooking. If this occurs, apply cold compresses and leave the crust to drop off naturally. It should leave no permanent scar, if there is a slight change in the pigment of the skin, this will usually fade.What is involved in the treatment?When you first approach The Beauty Wardrobe for IPL hair removal a thorough consultation will be conducted to analyse your medical history and confirm that IPL will be able to remove all normal healthy growing hairs. If there is any reason to doubt your eligibility for treatment then you will be referred to your GP before any treatment can commence. IPL cannot be carried out on clients under the age of 18 years, or on clients who are unable to give valid consent to the treatment. A patch test will be taken on an area close to where you want the hairs removing, to see how your skin and hairs react to the IPL system. You will then be sent home to monitor your skin reaction for 72 hours.What does it feel like?The sensation of IPL is different for everyone depending on the amount of hairs in an area and the coarseness of the hairs. For people with a few, thin hairs the sensation will feel like a flash of warm heat pushed onto the skin. For other people who have thicker hairs in a denser pattern, the sensation will be much hotter, although this flash of heat only lasts a second, for each application. Another factor to consider when discussing the sensation of IPL is the colour of the skin. The flash of heat is attracted to the darkness of the hairs; if the skin is also dark then this flash will feel hotter.Clients must be over the age of 18 years.An in-depth consultation and patch test is required prior to treatment (£25.00)Treatment can then be booked 3 days later.Packages are available (please enquire) andprices are subject to change.If you are having the pulsar treatment, pleasetake careful note of the following:Do NOT have a glycolic peel 1 week before or after treatment.Do NOT use glycolic homecare 3 days before or after treatmentPlease DO shave 2 days prior to having your treatment donePlease DO wear sunblock everyday (even in Winter) except for the day of your treatment and 1 day after.
